I’ve just become an independent Life and Health Agent.?

How can I find the best companies with the best products at the best rates? I guess I’m looking for a consumer rating service and I don’t mean AM Best. Those types of ratings are based on financial stability. While thats important, I want to know about customer service ratings.
I’ve been in the business for a year as a semi-captive agent. I’m now independent and have two companies that I write with but I’m always looking for others.

If you’re looking for a customer service rating, look for a company that has won the Dalbar award. Dalbar rates customer service provided to both agents and clients.

The company I work for participates in their programs for insurance, annuities and mutual funds.

    Go to your state insurance web site, and look at the complaints section.

    There ISN"T a consumer rating service.

    If you’re looking for companies to represent – good luck. Not many will appoint you without any experience. You’re best off getting hired on at an agency for a year or two, splitting commissions with them, using their markets, until you learn the ropes.
