The fact …

The fact that Whirlpool washers are not good, and they are bad in fact, doesn’t mean that all German designed washers are bad.
German designed washers are some of the Best in the World and the better exemple is MIELE washingmachines, there is Not one Miele washching machine that is bad for the time its built.
In fact Miele washing machines are the only ones I know that are tested to last, at least for 20 years! And I my grand parents have a 28 year old Miele still working perfectly!

The Duets are not …
The Duets are not American-made, nor even American-designed. The earlier model Whirlpool Duets were made in Germany. The later models are now assembled in Mexico. A Lowes salesman told me when Whirlpool entered the front-load washer market, it didn’t have experience building these machines so Whirlpool took the easy way by buying the German-made machines and put their name on them. So if these Duets are of poor design, it’s because the German-designed washers are of poor design.

Is it that much …
Is it that much different than the top loader? one would think that both machines go through a vigorous workout in the spin cycle no?

Not all front load …
Not all front load machines have this problem. The problem you are describing happens with Whirlpool/Kenmore machines and is very common. These machines are very problematic, and low quality. However there are quality front loaders out there that don’t have any of these issues. For example, Samsung makes a really good machine with excellent quality. It has a feature called Vibration Reduction Technology. That brings vibration down to almost nothing.
